Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Middlesex County College offers a choice of 74 associate degree and 16 certificate programs to over 11,300 students per semester, of which approximately 47 percent are enrolled full time.  In addition to its main campus in Edison, New Jersey, the college maintains two other locations.  The Perth Amboy Center—in addition to liberal arts, business, and developmental courses—offers a Success Bound Summer Youth Leadership Academy for high school students.  The New Brunswick Center’s facilities include an open computer lab and a biology lab.  Evening and Saturday classes are available at this location.

While certain programs have limited space and more specific admissions criteria, the college accepts applications from those who hold a high school diploma or GED.  Applicants may optionally submit SAT test scores.  Once students are admitted, they will usually need to take a series of ACCUPLACER Next-Generation placement tests in reading, writing, and math.  Depending on the score obtained for the Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics Test (QAS), a student may also take the Advanced Algebra and Functions Test.  The College Board’s ESL placement tests may also be given.  

For admission to the school’s nursing program, a high school or college GPA of 2.75 is requisite.  Additionally, a successful applicant must have received at least a Proficient score on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS-VI).  Upon completion of the program, graduates should be prepared either to continue working towards a BSN at a transfer institution, or they should be able to seek licensure after passing the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Exam).  For the year of 2017, the college reports that 62.6 percent of graduates were employed as Registered Nurses within twelve months of graduating.  For students earning an Associate of Science (AS) in the Education Transfer program, the college recommends preparing and sitting for the Praxis Core tests prior to starting the process of transferring to a baccalaureate program.  Sufficient SAT, ACT, or GRE scores may result in an exemption from this requirement.  Once students have earned their bachelor’s degree, they will also need to take the PRAXIS II Subject Assessments if they wish to obtain State Teacher Certification through New Jersey’s Department of Education.
