In 2015, Georgia Perimeter College merged with Georgia State University to form Perimeter College, an urban research university with multiple campuses in the metropolitan area of Atlanta.  The newest campus, in Covington, was established on land donated by the Arnold Fund and opened as Newton campus in 2007.  The Clarkston campus, on the other hand, was originally known as DeKalb College, which opened in 1964.  This campus is home to the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra.  The renowned Perimeter College Botanical Garden and a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Resource and Study Center are a part of the Decatur campus.  The Alpharetta campus attracts many students interested in dual-enrollment, in business, or in studying science in a setting where they can make use of its large wing of biology and chemistry labs.  The Dunwoody campus has an observatory that is open to both locals and astronomy students.  The campus is also known for its dental hygiene program and a clinic that provides low-cost dental care to the community. 

For entry into the college, students should submit a high school transcript or scores from the GED, HiSET, or TASC.  For admittance and placement, significant emphasis is placed on GPA and high school coursework.  Students with a recalculated GPA of 3.2 or greater are not required to submit test scores.  A high school GPA in the range of 2.5 to 3.19 will place students into co-requisite English and math courses unless test scores indicate college readiness.  Students admitted with a GPA below 2.5 will need to provide minimum scores on one of the accepted tests, including SAT and ACT, in order to demonstrate college readiness.  The minimum score on the Next Generation ACCUPLACER, the placement test offered at the college, is 258 on the Nex-Gen QAS Math, 237 on the Nex-Gen Reading, and a 4-8 on the Writeplacer.

In 2017, the college’s two Associate of Science in Nursing degree tracks, the generic program for students who are new to the field and the LPN to RN bridge program, recorded pass rates of 93.86 percent on the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Exam) for graduates making their first attempt.  The Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene program is approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association.  The program trains students to become licensed practitioners, and the college reports that, for the past ten years, graduates have achieved a 100 percent passing rate for the first attempt on the National Board Exam (NBDHE—the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination).
