What is University of Florida known for?

The University of Florida is part of the State University System and is located in Gainesville.  By enrollment numbers, it is the third largest university in the state.  In 2017, the student population was 52,367.  The university provides both undergraduate and graduate degrees and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.  Sixteen different colleges and schools are contained in the university. 

Admission to the school requires scores on either the ACT test or the SAT test as well as a high school grade point average no less than 2.0.  TOEFL scores are accepted from students in the International community.  The ACT average score of accepted students is about 30.  For the SAT, this average score on the composite test is about 1318 and the average GPA is 3.76.  The university administers placement tests in English Composition, Mathematics (ALEKS), General Chemistry, and Foreign Languages.  Students may earn credits by AP exams.  CLEP exams are also given to award credit for experience or prior learning. 

Many courses of study are offered at the university for graduate students as well as undergraduate.  The College of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.  The graduates of this program have a high rate of passing scores on the NCLEX-RN licensing examination.  Graduate degree programs are also available in nursing.  The College of Education offers two programs that result in earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree within five years.  One of the programs is in Elementary Education and the other in Early Childhood Education.  During the fifth year, students prepare for certification.  The Warren College of Business offers undergraduate degree programs in Accounting and Business Administration.  The administration degrees specialize in Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Management, and Marketing.  For graduate level business programs, scores on the GRE exam or the GMAT exam are required for admission.
