What is Touro University known for?

Touro College is part of the university system with the same name.  It is a private college with campuses in New York, Los Angeles, and in several international locations such as Berlin and Israel.  The enrollment is approximately 7,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate students.  The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is the accrediting agency that approves the college.  Admission to the college varies by the location and the program to which one is applying.  High school transcripts and GED scores are not required for all but may be required for many of the programs. 

Machon L’Parnasa is a campus located in Brooklyn.  Anyone may apply but all students are required to take placement tests in Math and English.  If an applicant does not have a high school diploma or has not passed the GED, the Accuplacer exam is given to determine whether the student will benefit from the coursework.  The exams are given at the campus.  Programs at this campus include associate degree programs in liberal arts and sciences, information technology, marketing, business management. 

The New York School for Career and Applied Studies provides programs awarding associate and bachelor’s degrees.  The admissions process requires high school transcripts or GED equivalency diploma as well as SAT or ACT scores.  TOEFL scores are required for students to document proficiency in speaking English.  This school offers the education program.  Students cannot declare an education major until completing nine credits in education courses.  The overall college GPA must be at least 3.0 and the GPA for all education courses must be at least 3.0.  Grades in College Writing I and II must also be no less than B.  Other programs available at this school include business management, finance, biology, accounting, information systems, and criminal justice. 

The School of Health Sciences is located in Bay Shore.  It houses the nursing program.  At this time applications are only being accepted for the Bachelor of Science degree and the RN to BSN program.  Admission to the Bachelor of Science program is only for students who have high school transcripts or a GED diploma and test scores.  Students entering the program must have a minimum composite score of 120 on the NLN-PAX nursing entrance exam, hold a minimum GPA of 2.75 for all college level courses, and students must take the college placement tests in English Composition and Mathematics prior to the start of the first semester.
