What is Spokane Falls Community College known for?

Spokane Falls Community College is one of two community colleges which are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges to serve the area surrounding Spokane, Washington.  In addition to the main campus, an agreement with WSU provides classes and services on the Pullman campus.  Credits taken at this campus transfer easily to WSU.  Air Force personnel and residents of Lincoln County and West Plains are served by the Education Center operated by the college at the Fairchild Air Force Base.  In the academic year 2018 – 2019, the college enrolled a total of 28,744 students out of which 17,873 were in programs resulting in the award of a degree or certificate.

The college accepts any applicant who has a high school diploma or equivalent such as a GED.  Placement testing covers both English and Mathematics.  Certain high school grade point averages or certain scores on exams such as the SAT, ACT, or Smarter Balanced may allow students to forgo the placement tests.   For mathematics, the My Math Test program is used for placement testing and study.  International students should submit scores to demonstrate proficiency with English such as TOEFL or IELTS.  When students have low English proficiency scores there is an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) available.

The college offers a variety of Associate of Arts degrees (AA-DTA) that are in programs for which there is a direct transfer agreement with most of the four-year institutions in the state.  Programs for which direct transfer agreements are available include Business Management, Marketing, Early Childhood Education, Education Paraeducator, and Mathematics Education.  Certificate programs are also available for Early Childhood Education, and for Paraeducator programs.
