What is Rutgers University New Brunswick known for?

Rutgers University New Brunswick is the oldest of the three campuses that comprise the university.  This campus is divided into smaller campuses.  The Busch Campus was formerly known as the University Heights Campus.  The College Avenue Campus contains the historic seat of the university.  The Livingston Campus is home to the Louis Brown Athletic Center.  The Cook Campus is the site of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.  The Douglass Campus shares space with the Cook Campus.  According to the university website, enrollment is approximately 50,254 students, 36,039 of which are undergraduates and 14,215 are graduate students.  The university accreditation is bestowed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. 

Acceptance to the university as a freshman requires SAT or ACT scores as well as submission of high school transcripts.  The average grade point average of entering freshmen is at least 3.73.  Average ACT scores are about 28 and average combined score on SAT exams is about 1300.  Students for whom English is not the first language may need to submit either TOEFL or IELTS scores during the application process.  Placement testing in English and Mathematics is required and given in the testing center. 

The New Brunswick campus includes nineteen schools which offer programs for undergraduate and graduate level students.  The College of Nursing offers a traditional Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing as well as graduate degrees and RN to BSN programs.  Students who complete the bachelor’s degree in nursing are able to begin work as registered nurses.  The college of nursing advertised pass rate for the NCLEX exams was 92% in 2018.  The College of Education is a graduate school and offers both master’s and doctoral programs.  However, a new five-year program allows undergraduate students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in an education field.  Applicants to this program should complete the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators exam.
