What is Curry College known for?

Curry College is a private New England school with a student population of a little under 5,000 and a student to faculty ratio of 12:1.  Its main campus, located near the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, Massachusetts, is just 7 miles from downtown Boston.  Its second campus, located in Plymouth, enables students to complete a number of the college’s degree programs on-site.  Recently the college formed an agreement with Quincy College that enables graduates of the latter’s associate degree program in Criminal Justice to gain conditional acceptance to Curry’s Division of Continuing and Graduate Studies so that they may work towards earning a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.   

As an average, GPA of admitted students is 2.9.  Only applicants to the Nursing or Education programs must submit SAT, SAT 1, or ACT scores.  Submission of scores is optional for applicants to other majors and those students who are entering through the PAL (Program for Advancement of Learning).  Students applying for the PAL program, however, will have to provide recent results from diagnostic testing.  A writing placement survey and a math assessment are given to students before they enroll in classes.

The School of Nursing was originally created, in 1977, from a merger with Boston Children’s Hospital School of Nursing, and it was the first nursing program in Massachusetts to receive accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.  In addition to traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), MS, and RN-BSN programs, the school offers an Accelerated Nursing Program (ACCEL) for students earning a second bachelor’s in nursing.  It also offers a non-credit certificate preparation program that is designed to help RN’s who intend to seek certification through the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).  The college’s school of education has undergraduate majors based on the student’s choice of either public school or community education.  In either career path, the programs require completion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL).  The school also offers a 5^th year M.Ed. program.  Students pursuing this track will have earned both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Education, and they will hold two teaching licenses upon passing the MTEL: one for elementary level education and one for special education of children with moderate disabilities in the range of pre-K through 8^th grade.
