What is College of Southern Nevada known for?

The College of Southern Nevada is a community college that is also considered a four-year college since some of its programs are bachelor’s degree programs.  The college is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education. The 3 campuses in the Las Vegas Valley are the Henderson Campus, the Charleston Campus, and the North Las Vegas Campus. There are also eight learning centers, which are Nellis Air Force Base, Moapa Valley, Las Vegas City Hall, Summerlin, Mesquite, Sahara West, Green Valley, and Western. Over 2,500 faculty and non-teaching personnel comprise the staff.  The programs offered by the college are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.  About 3,597 students attained a degree or certificate in the school year 2017-2018.  Yearly enrollment at the college is about 34,000 with about 74% being part-time and 26% being full time students.  The college is one of the largest public institutions of higher learning in the state. 

The College of Southern Nevada accepts any adult student for admission.  Those who wish to enroll in degree or certificate programs must be a high school graduate or have completed a high school equivalency program and exam such as GED, TASC,  or HiSET.

The number of different degree or certificate programs offered at the college is approximately 280.  The Ralph & Betty Engelstad School of Health Sciences offers a variety of health care programs.  Most of the programs in health sciences are limited entry programs that have further requirements for admission.  The Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing (RN) program requires that students have a GPA of at least 2.50 in all prerequisite courses and a minimum score on either the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam or the Kaplan Admission Test (KAT).  The School of Education, Behavioral & Social Sciences offers associate degree programs in education that allow students to transfer to a four-year college to complete a bachelor’s in education.  They also offer associate programs in Early Childhood Education.
