What is CCP known for?

CCP, Community College of Philadelphia, offers residents of the city four convenient locations to further their education.  The main campus, located in the Spring Garden area of the city, has its library and its financial aid offices located in the former home of the third Philadelphia Mint.  This campus also includes the Winnet Student Life building and the Center for Business and Industry.  The Northeast Regional Center (NERC), situated in the Parkwood area, is the college’s largest regional center and has expanded with recent development that made use of sustainable practices.  Part of the city’s Fern Rock neighborhood, the Northwest Regional Center (NWRC) is the only site at the college to offer the Ophthalmic Technician Proficiency Certificate.  The West Regional Center (WRC) is close to the main campus and provides facilities for the Automotive Technology Program.  For the 2017-2018 year, the college offered credit and non-credit courses to about 27, 729 students.

Although the college doesn’t require SAT or ACT scores for admission, these can be helpful if a student’s score on one of these tests results in a waiver for the school’s placement tests.  Additionally, waivers may be granted based on AP exam scores, IBT (internet based TOEFL) scores, or IELTS scores.  High school GPA and coursework may also be considered.  Without a test waiver, the ACCUPLACER will be used as a placement assessment.

The college has made its Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing degree accessible to students with varied backgrounds by providing three programs: Traditional, Post Baccalaureate Accelerated, and Advanced Placement (LPN to RN).  The latter program gives admission priority to military medics.  All of these programs will enable graduates to pursue licensure upon passing the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam).  The college’s certificates and degrees offered through its Department of Education are also varied.  Some programs, like the Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, may help students who wish to enter the workforce following graduation, while others may be more closely tailored towards students who intend to continue their studies.  However, in general, once an associates degree has been earned, a student intent upon obtaining certification will need a GPA of at least 3.0 and a passing score on the Pre-Professional Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA) before enrolling in certification courses at the institution through which the higher degree will be pursued.
