What is AWC known for?

AWC, or Arizona Western College is located in Yuma and has 12 campuses, satellites, and learning centers to serve Yuma and La Paz counties.  Over 100 associate degree and certificate programs are offered at the college which has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.  In the year 2017-2018, approximately 11,492 students attended the college. 

Anyone with a high school degree or equivalency such as a GED may apply for enrollment.  Also admitted are any students who are over 18 years old and have proven that they can benefit from the instruction.  Entering students must take placement tests in English and mathematics.  The college administers the Accuplacer tests for this purpose.  Students who have qualified SAT and ACT scores may be exempt from the placement testing process.  CLEP and DSST tests may be used to apply for credit by exam.  The Testing Center offers the GED test at several locations.

The college offers a certificate program in practical nursing as well as an associate degree program in nursing which results in credentials for registered nursing following successful completion of the NCLEX-RN licensing exam.  Two associate degree programs in early childhood education are offered in addition to several certificate programs in the field.  Associate of Arts degree programs prepare students for transfer to four-year schools to complete degrees in Elementary Education as well as Secondary Education.
