The NES, or National Evaluation Series test for Middle Grades Mathematics (203)assesses the skills of candidates in the process of attaining licensure to begin a teaching career. Those interested in teaching math at this level should contact the teacher certification office at their state department of education for detailed information about the required teacher assessments.
The test is computer-based and the questions are multiple-choice. A reference sheet and an on-screen calculator are available during the exam. The mathematics concepts covered on the test come from the topics of Algebra and Functions, Measurement and Geometry, Data, Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics, and Number Sense and Operations.
