For admissions decisions, the university focuses, in part, on the rigorousness of high school coursework, GPA (particularly in core academic courses), and scores on standardized tests.  Regarding the freshman class profile, 65% of accepted students are in the top 25% of their high school class.  The average GPA is 3.62.  The average score on the ACT falls within the range of 23 to 29.  SAT Critical Reading scores fall between 580 and 690, while SAT Math scores are in the range of 570 to 690.  Despite these standards, many students will be required to take placement tests before enrolling in courses.  The English (Writing) and Reading Assessments use ACCUPLACER; the Math Assessment uses ALEKS.  Additionally, those students for whom English is a second language may be required to present a score of 79 on the internet based TOEFL, a score of 6.5 on the IELTS, or demonstrate proficiency by one of several other options.

While general admissions criteria are competitive, some programs have further prerequisites.  With three campuses (Oklahoma, City, Lawton, and Tulsa), the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing offers a number of degree programs, including several BSN and MSN programs and a DNP program.  For BSN and Accelerated BSN programs, admissions are based on academic performance in college courses that are prerequisite to enrollment.  Students enrolling in the LPN to BSN program are given the opportunity to earn up to 30 hours of advanced standing credit that can be applied towards the number of credits necessary for their degree; this is based on the scores received on the National League for Nursing (NLN) Acceleration Challenge Examinations.   Prospective students are encouraged to prepare with materials appropriate for the NCLEX-RN.   The University of Oklahoma’s graduate programs may require the GRE revised General Test, although some programs—such as the MBA program offered at the Price College of Business, Gene Rainbolt Graduate School of Business—may also accept the GMAT.
