Portland Community College is located in Portland, Oregon and is the largest community college in the state. In 2017-2018, there were approximately 71,000 students enrolled in both credit and non-credit programs at the college. There are four campuses which award two-year degrees and several smaller centers which offer various specialty programs. The first campus was the Sylvania Campus which opened in the southwest area of the city in 1968. Following in 1971 was the Cascade Campus which is located in the northeastern community. Rock Creek Campus which has 256 acres near Hillsboro, opened in 1976 and Southeast Campus became a full campus in the fall of 2014.

All students enrolled in college credit courses, begin with introductory classes in math, reading, and writing. Students who have graduated from high school within 7 years of applying at the college, should submit their high school transcripts. For students out of school for more than 7 years, a placement test is required. The testing center at the college administers the Accuplacer Exam for Reading and Writing, and the ALEKS exam for Mathematics. International students must document English proficiency by way of TOEFL, IELTS, ACTE, or SAT scores. For students who do not have passing scores on these exams, the college offers its own ESOL program.

The school offers a transfer program in Education. Students interested in this program should plan to study for the Associate of Arts – Oregon Transfer (AAOT). Education courses taken will also count toward an Associate of Science degree. The nursing program is housed at the Sylvania Campus. Students who successfully complete this program are qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Students also have the option of completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Oregon Health and Science University. The nursing program is competitive and further requirements are necessary for admission.
