What is IRSC known for?

Indian River State College, located in Fort Pierce, Florida serves the Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie counties. In addition to the main campus, there are also the Dixon Hendry Campus, the Pruitt Campus, the Chastain Campus, and the Mueller Campus as well as several learning centers. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and awards Associate and Baccalaureate degrees as well as Certificates and Applied Technology Diplomas. Approximate enrollment is 17,500.

For students entering the college for the purpose of earning an Associate degree, there is an open enrollment policy. A high school diploma, high school equivalency such as GED or home school completion is required. For some students, a placement test may be necessary. The college administers the PERT exam for this purpose. Students who entered high school after the 2003-2004 academic year or students who are serving in active duty in the military are not required to take the exam. However, it is recommended. The placement exam is administered in the testing center at the college. GED and TABE tests are also administered at the college for those who need to document high school equivalency or job-related skills. CLEP exams may also be taken there for credit by exam.

The associate degree nursing program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Students must meet additional admissions requirements for this program including passing scores on the National League of Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN). Graduates will be able to work in health care as registered nurses after passing the NCLEX exam. Programs in education begin with Associate of Arts and then continue in the bachelor’s degree programs at the college or they may transfer to another four-year institution. Programs available include Elementary Education, Special Education, Secondary Education, and Physical Education. There is also an Associate level program in Early Childhood Education. The Educator Preparation Institute provides opportunities for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree to become certified educators.
