What is Hillsborough Community College known for?

Located in Florida, Hillsborough Community College has five campuses throughout the county as well as several instructional centers. The Dale Mabry Campus is the oldest and largest. The South Shore campus is located in Ruskin on the south shore of Tampa Bay. Other campuses are Brandon, Plant City, and Ybor City. The administrative offices are close to downtown Tampa on the Davis Islands. Instructional centers are located at the Regent in Riverview and at MacDill Air Force Base in South Tampa.

Student enrollment is approximately 43,000, making HCC one of the largest colleges in the state awarding associate degrees. Students who enter the college seeking a degree must submit high school transcripts or GED documentation. Although not required, the PERT test may be used for placement into English and Mathematics courses. Foreign students must submit proof of English proficiency such as a score on either the TOEFL exam or the IELTS. Additionally, the Accuplacer ESL (LOEP) Test is administered at the HCC Testing Center.

In addition to offering Associate of Arts degrees in Education/Teacher preparation, the college also offers the Educator Preparation Program (EPI). Students seeking admission to the EPI program must already hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and submit documentation of passing a FTCE Subject Area Exam (SAE). The FTCE General Knowledge Exam may also be required. Admission to the nursing program requires a prerequisite GPA of 2.8 as well as an overall score of at least 60% on the TEAS entrance examination. The program takes four semesters and program graduates are eligible to take the licensure examination – NCLEX. Graduates who qualify may also transfer to a BSN program at the University of South Florida.
