The admissions policy is open enrollment.  High school transcripts or GED scores must be sent to the admissions office when applying. New students are required to take the TSI Assessment which measures basic skills in Mathematics, Writing, and Reading.  Some students may bypass these placement tests with certain SAT or ACT scores.  Exemption from the placement testing may also be based on TAKS scores or STAAR test scores.  Students who need a high school equivalency diploma can take the exams in the testing center which administers the GED test as well as the HiSET test.  The state also approves TASC test scores.   Students from foreign countries have several options showing proficiency with English including scores on the TOEFL exam.  Participation in the English Language Program is an alternative to testing.

A variety of programs are available for associate degrees, certificates, continuing education, and workforce training.  In Nursing, a popular choice is the Associate of Applied Science program.  A score of 80% on the ATI TEAS exam is one of the admissions criteria for this program.  Successful completion of the two-year course qualifies graduates to become registered nurses upon passing the licensing exam (NCLEX-RN).  Other nursing options are the vocational nursing program and a program that allows transition from the Licensed Vocational Nurse to the Registered Nursing program.   In the state of Texas teacher certification requires a bachelor’s degree in addition to passing certification tests such as the TExES exams.  The college offers an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree program which enables graduates to complete a bachelor’s degree at a university.  Students may choose early childhood to grade 6, grades 4 to 8, secondary, and special education.  Future firefighters can earn the Associate of Applied Science degree in Basic Firefighter Courses.  Upon completion of the degree, a state required certification exam is taken.  Upon completing the Basic Peace Officer Certification courses students are eligible to sit for the State Licensing Examination.
