The THEA, or Texas Higher Education Assessment is used to measure the skill levels of students entering colleges or universities as freshmen students. It assesses skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, each with a separate section of the test. The mathematics test is approximately 50 multiple-choice questions covering fundamental mathematics, algebra, geometry, and problem solving. Within those broad categories, the questions assess problem solving and abilities with math operations. A formula sheet and an on-screen calculator are available for use during the test.
